Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Alumni Engagement, the Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement is responsible for developing, planning and implementing events, programs and experiences that will help promote and increase alumni engagement at NJIT.
The Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement is responsible for creating and managing key relationships with alumni volunteers.
The Assistant Director manages all regional and athletic alumni engagement and serves as the primary point of contact for these alumni groups.
Essential Functions: - Oversees the planning, management and execution of all regional alumni programs and events.
- Recruits, trains and retains regional leaders and volunteers, and serves as the liaison between regional leaders/volunteers and various University constituencies.
- Plans, coordinates and executes regional events, including receptions, service projects and athlete-alumni events, while adhering to budgets and timelines.
- Serves as the liaison between the Department of Athletics and the Office of Alumni Engagement to develop and execute strategies to engage alumni of NJIT athletic programs.
- In collaboration with the Associate Director of Digital Engagement, creates online event registration and collateral materials that support increased and continued engagement and participation.
- Works collaboratively with the Alumni Engagement and larger Development & Alumni Relations team to research, identify and cultivate potential alumni volunteers and donors.
- Measurably increases the engagement of assigned regional and affinity groups.
- Uses alumni data to assess and establish regional-based affinity groups, interest circles or other like groups.
- Duties include the creation and oversight of event proposals, project timelines, budget projections, presidential event briefings and other event documents.
- Assists with departmental signature events as needed.
Handles offsite regional/athletics event logistics such as reserving venues, ordering supplies and food, room setup/decor and coordinating with vendors and staff.
Additional Functions: - Other duties as assigned.
Prerequisite Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree required plus two or more years of experience in volunteer management, higher education, events, non-profit or similar field.
- Strong written and verbal communication, analytic and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage and prioritize projects and programs effectively, with an entrepreneurial and self-starter mentality.
- Demonstrates the ability to work effectively with other divisional staff colleagues.
- Exhibits a professional presence, especially with high-level campus leaders and institutional volunteers.
- Position involves frequent travel as well as the ability to work evenings and weekends.
- Candidates must also demonstrate an ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues; facilitate multiple projects, make decisions and meet deadlines; and identify problems and develop creative, timely and efficient solutions.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience with Blackbaud Raiser's Edge or RE NXT.
- Previous experience with an alumni, development or athletic department preferred.
- Experience with managing volunteers and special events.
