Candidates must have four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson, which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
Duties DescriptionThe Trades Generalist at Clay Pit Ponds State Park Preserve works as a part of the operations and maintenance staff.
Trades Generalists across the various trades have one responsibility in common and that is to perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, installation and construction tasks in the mechanical, building, motor equipment and electrical trades.
Incumbents must have a working knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in their respective trades and be willing to learn new skills.
Duties include:
• Lead a team of skilled trade generalists or unskilled staff in preventative and corrective maintenance of the park’s fleet of equipment including gators, push mowers, tractors, trucks, passenger vehicles and trail repair.
• Complete repairs on various pieces of heavy equipment or small-engine devices.
• Plan and lay out projects, supervise and train others as well as read and interpret plans.
• May be assigned to other duties including but not limited to direct facility maintenance, leading operations as needed, which may include supervising lower-level staff, and operating various equipment for grounds care & maintenance.
• May be responsible for directing park operations in the absence of the Park Manager 2.
Additional CommentsOPERATING NEEDS:
• Must possess a valid drivers license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State.
• The schedule is 40 hours per week, with pass days to be determined.
Weekend, evening, and holiday shifts may also be required.
• Must be able to read and interpret blueprints
• Must be able to supervise others and to act independently with a minimum of supervision.
• Must have ability to understand and carry out written and/or verbal instructions.
• Must have knowledge of standard safety practices.
• Candidate is expected to periodically support the New York City Region’s park and operational needs, including special assignments at other parks and emergency management tasks as needed.
DOWNSTATE ADJUSTMENT: $3,400
